Hyatt operates hotels across the spectrum from business-focused select-service to intimate luxury, with a loyalty programme that rewards repeat guests generously. This San Antonio property puts you in Hemisfair, a quiet district along the River Walk where the city's Spanish colonial past meets its mid-century ambitions. The neighbourhood takes its name from the 1968 world's fair, whose legacy includes the Tower of the Americas rising 229 metres over the river bend. Beyond the convention centre buzz, the River Walk here feels residential: cypress trees shade the limestone banks, ducks paddle between foot bridges, and families spread picnics on the lawns of Hemisfair Park.

The Alamo stands three blocks north, its weathered mission facade a reminder that San Antonio was a Spanish outpost before it became a Texas legend. South along the river, you'll find the King William Historic District's painted Victorian mansions and quiet streets lined with pecan trees. Market Square, the largest Mexican market in the United States, sprawls a kilometre northwest with mariachi bands and paper flowers strung across the courtyard.

San Antonio International Airport sits 12 kilometres north, a 20-minute drive depending on traffic along I-37.

Mixtli, just over a kilometre away, anchors the city's fine dining conversation. Chefs Diego Galicia and Rico Torres built their reputation on a reverence for Mexican culinary history, changing the tasting menu every 45 days to explore a different region or era. Expect dishes like pre-Hispanic tamales steamed in banana leaves or mole aged for weeks. Book weeks ahead; the dining room seats only 12. Isidore, in the Pearl District 1.8 kilometres north, works live fire into every course, from smoked Gulf oysters to dry-aged beef over mesquite. Nicōsi, 1.9 kilometres away, flips convention by serving only desserts in tasting-menu form: think savoury ice creams, citrus-cured fish, and fermented fruit in eight progressive courses.

The five Spanish missions strung along the river 11 kilometres south earned UNESCO recognition in 2015. Mission San Juan Capistrano, the smallest, still holds mass on Sundays in its frescoed chapel. Pearl Farmer's Market, 2.2 kilometres north, fills the Pearl Brewery courtyard on weekends with Hill Country peaches, Gulf shrimp, and breakfast tacos from local vendors. Start with barbacoa and a paleta before browsing.

Summer presses down with authority. July peaks near 36°C, the air thick and still, broken only by afternoon thunderheads that build over the Hill Country and sweep through with brief, violent downpours. The River Walk's cypress canopy and limestone walls offer relief, and most dining happens after dark when the temperature finally relents.

Spring arrives early and warm. March sees wildflowers carpet the countryside, bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush turning ranch land into a quilt of colour. Temperatures climb to the mid-20s by afternoon, perfect for the missions or a round at Brackenridge Golf Course.

Winter stays mild, with daytime highs near 18°C and occasional cold fronts that drop overnight lows to single digits. The city decorates the River Walk with three million lights from late November through January, transforming the waterway into a slow-moving parade of barges and mariachi music. October through April remains the ideal window, when humidity recedes and the heat becomes warmth.

What Guests Say: Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk

“As others have said, the Regency is right on the 'main' part of the Riverwalk while the Grand Hyatt is on an eastern spur and is a bit of a walk to get to the main part. If you're visiting for pleasure staying closer to the main part of the Riverwalk is worth it over any marginal improvement to the room.”

“I liked the Regency as a tourist. We had a room with a view of the Alamo so that was really cool. Just expect tourist things.”
