Location
InterContinental's approach has always been to serve as a bridge to place, and here on the Gold Coast, that means anchoring itself in the waterways and golf courses of Hope Island, a gated enclave where Queensland's subtropical ease takes a cultivated form. The property sits within a master-planned resort community, surrounded by championship golf and a network of canals that feed into the Coomera River, a landscape shaped as much by design as by nature.
Hope Island occupies a quiet corner of the northern Gold Coast, removed from the high-rise corridors of Surfers Paradise but close enough to feel the city's pull when you want it. The Cova Marina lies two kilometres south, its moorings lined with cruisers and superyachts. Lagoons, fish habitat reserves, and conservation parks edge the neighbourhood, offering pockets of mangrove and wetland between the fairways.
Gold Coast Airport is 38 kilometres south, a 30-minute drive along the Pacific Motorway. Brisbane International sits 57 kilometres north, accessible via the M1. Both routes cut through the corridor of development that defines Southeast Queensland, but the turn-off to Hope Island signals a shift in tempo.
The Palms Course and the Pines Course are within a kilometre of the property, both designed to challenge without intimidation, their fairways threading past water hazards and stands of eucalyptus. Links Hope Island, three kilometres away, adds a seaside-style layout if you're inclined to vary your round. Book a tee time early; the courses fill quickly in cooler months.
Sandy Beach, a kilometre north, offers a manufactured but serviceable stretch of sand along the lagoon, more for wading than waves. For surf, drive 15 kilometres south to The Spit, where the Broadwater meets the Pacific and the shore opens up into something raw. Coomera Fish Habitat Area and Pimpama Conservation Park bracket the neighbourhood, their boardwalks threading through wetlands where ibis and cormorants work the shallows. For wine, the Tambourine Mountain estates lie 20 kilometres inland: Cedar Creek Estate and Witches Falls Estate produce small-batch vintages in a region better known for beaches than bottles.
Summer arrives heavy and wet. January and February hover in the mid-20s, the air thick with humidity, afternoon thunderstorms rolling in from the Coral Sea to break the heat. The mornings feel tropical, the light diffuse through cloud cover.
Autumn cools gradually, the rainfall easing by May as temperatures settle into the low 20s. The fairways green up, the lagoons calm, and the evenings turn pleasant for outdoor dining. Winter is mild and dry, daytime highs in the high teens, nights crisp enough for a jacket. July and August see the least rain, the skies clearing to hard blue.
Spring warms steadily from September onward, the air lightening as jacarandas bloom across the coast. By November, the humidity returns, and the summer pattern reasserts itself.
