Cape Town arrives with the bright, baked clarity of a city pinned between ocean and mountain. Start early to avoid the midday crowds. Summer (December through February) brings long, cloudless days, temperatures hovering in the low twenties with the southeaster blowing strong off False Bay. The light is white and sharp, the mountain casting deep afternoon shadows over the bowl. Streets empty during the midday heat; locals retreat to shaded stoeps and ocean-facing terraces.

Autumn (March to May) softens the edges. The southeaster dies back, temperatures cool into the high teens, and the city takes on a golden, sleepy quality. Vineyards begin their harvest under mild skies.

Winter (June to August) is the rainy season, fronts sweeping in from the South Atlantic to soak the fynbos and fill the mountain reservoirs. Daytime highs rarely exceed fifteen degrees, and the peaks wear brief caps of snow. Spring (September to November) returns with wildflower blooms across the peninsula and gentle warmth building into December. Late spring offers the best balance: clear skies, moderate temperatures, fewer visitors.
