Location
Four Seasons has long balanced global consistency with local expression, and here on Dubai's coastline that translates to anticipatory service standards meeting the energy of a city constantly rewriting its own skyline. The Jumeirah 2 neighbourhood sits on a stretch where the Gulf waters meet white sand, a residential enclave that offers breathing room from the vertical drama of Downtown.
Sunset Beach lies just 800 metres north, a favourite among kitesurfers when the shamal winds blow in winter. Walk inland and you'll find the low-rise villas and palm-lined streets that characterised Dubai before the supertall era, with the Mercato shopping complex and its faux-Italian piazzas nearby. This part of Jumeirah retains a quieter rhythm, the beach road punctuated by independent cafés and corner grocers rather than malls.
Dubai International Airport sits 14 kilometres northeast, a swift taxi ride along Sheikh Zayed Road past the glittering procession of towers that define the modern skyline.
On-property dining centres on Coya, where the intoxicating atmosphere of Latin America arrives through contemporary Peruvian and Nikkei dishes built on intense contrasts: crisp textures against silky sauces, sharp citrus cutting through rich seafood. Plates are designed for sharing, the pisco flows freely. For a more ambitious meal, book well ahead at Trèsind Studio, 14 kilometres into the city, where the surprise tasting menu draws flavours from all four corners of India with startling originality and precision (three Michelin stars). FZN by Björn Frantzén, just beyond that, conceals an elevated dining experience behind a simple doorbell, the setting intimate as a private apartment.
Back by the water, the fishing harbour at Jumeirah sits one kilometre south, wooden dhows still unloading the morning catch. The Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, roughly nine kilometres inland, shelters thousands of flamingos along the mudflats where Dubai Creek opens into salt marsh. Don't miss the birds at dawn, when the light turns the shallows copper.
Winter, from November through March, delivers the golden season: daytime temperatures hover in the mid-twenties, evenings cool enough for open-air dining without the weight of humidity. The city pulses with energy during these months, terraces fill at sunset, the beach becomes walkable again.
By April the heat begins its climb, reaching a fierce peak in July and August when temperatures push past 40°C and the air shimmers over asphalt. Few linger outdoors during these months; the city retreats into air-conditioned interiors, the rhythm slows.
September and October offer a gradual reprieve, the Gulf still warm but the intensity softening. Rain is rare year-round, a brief surprise when it arrives in winter.
