Location
La Zambra Resort sits in Pueblo Mijitas, a hillside enclave above Marbella's coastal sprawl, where the foothills of the Sierra Blanca meet the Mediterranean haze. This stretch of the Costa del Sol has been drawing sun-seekers and second-home owners for decades, but the neighbourhood retains a quieter, residential character compared to the marina-front bustle farther south. Marbella itself has grown into Andalusia's seventh-largest city, a year-round resort town with a significant archaeological heritage and a cultural calendar that extends well beyond beach season.
The municipality unfolds across 117 square kilometres between Málaga and the Strait of Gibraltar, its white-washed Old Quarter and Moorish traces overlaid by a reputation for golf, marinas, and the Golden Mile's palm-lined estates. Sierra Blanca rises behind the city, a dramatic limestone spine that catches the morning light.
Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport lies 20 kilometres northeast, connected by the coastal A-7 motorway; Gibraltar Airport offers an alternative entry point 76 kilometres south, though most arrivals route through Málaga.
Golf defines the immediate landscape: Campo Los Lagos and Campo Los Olivos lie within 500 metres, while Cerrado del Aguila and Santana Golf & Country Club extend the choice within a five-minute drive. The coastline proper begins four kilometres south at Playa de Santa Amalia, the first in a chain of sand beaches running past the Puerto Deportivo de Fuengirola. Fuengirola's weekly market and flea market, both around four kilometres distant, pull a lively mix of locals and visitors hunting ceramics, produce, and secondhand finds.
Book a table at Skina, a two-Michelin-star modern kitchen 21 kilometres west on Marbella's Golden Mile, where sommelier Marcos Granda presides over a wine list as ambitious as the tasting menu. Closer in, Sollo in Reserva del Higuerón (seven kilometres) holds one star and champions aquaponic farming, its open kitchen framed by coastal views. For a longer excursion, Bardal in Ronda (49 kilometres north) earns two stars against the backdrop of El Tajo gorge, the town's vertiginous bridge suspended over the ravine.
High summer (July and August) sends temperatures past 30°C, the days bleached and still, beaches crowded through dusk. September softens the heat without losing the light, the sea warmer now than in June.
Spring (April and May) brings wildflowers to the Sierra Blanca and ideal walking weather, the coast less populated before the European school holidays begin. Rainfall peaks from December through March, brief downpours that green the hills and empty the terraces, though daytime highs rarely dip below 15°C.
Winter remains mild enough for golf and outdoor dining, the sun slanting lower but reliable, the pace of the city slowing just enough to feel the local rhythm beneath the resort veneer.
