Book a table at Los Félix for the Sunday market brunch, when the neighbourhood feels most itself. Crandon Beach, nine kilometres across the causeway on Key Biscayne, offers two miles of fine white sand and shallow turquoise water, quieter than South Beach and far less crowded.

Winter, from December through February, brings the driest and most comfortable weather: highs in the mid-twenties, low humidity, and steady trade winds that keep the bay glittering. This is peak season, when terrace dining and long waterfront walks feel effortless.

Spring warms gradually through March and April, with afternoon breezes and the jacaranda trees beginning to bloom in vivid purple drifts along residential streets. May marks the shift toward summer heat and the first heavy rains, brief afternoon thunderstorms that clear as quickly as they arrive.

Summer and early autumn, from June through September, are hot, humid, and prone to sudden downpours. The light turns thick and golden, the bay flattens to glass between storms, and the neighbourhood slows to a languid pace. Hurricane season runs through November, though direct strikes are rare; October and November see frequent rain but also dramatic skies and fewer visitors.
