The dry season stretches from December through April, when mornings break clear and temperatures climb into the low thirties. Streets fill early, before midday heat drives locals into air-conditioned cafes and shaded arcades. February and March offer the most comfortable walking weather, with minimal rain and bright light that sharpens the city's French colonial facades.

The monsoon arrives in May and intensifies through September, when afternoon downpours flood low-lying streets and the air thickens with humidity. Temperatures hold steady in the low thirties, but the rain transforms the rhythm of the day. Vendors cover stalls with tarps, motorcycles crowd under awnings, and the city smells of wet pavement and frangipani.
