Location
The property sits at the foot of the Andes in the Valle de Uco, Argentina's premier high-altitude wine region, where vineyards stretch toward snowcapped peaks and the air carries the mineral clarity of glacial meltwater. This is Mendoza at its most dramatic: vast blue skies, crisp light that sharpens every ridge line, and a landscape governed by the seasons of the harvest. The Vines occupies a working vineyard estate where rows of Malbec and Cabernet vines give way to the foothills, and the rhythm of winemaking defines the calendar.
Within minutes you reach Bodega La Vigilia and Gimenez Riili, both practically adjacent to the property, while Piedra Negra lies less than two kilometres south. The valley itself remains quiet, punctuated by small wineries and adobe farmhouses, the road tracing the irrigated green corridor that cuts through high desert scrubland.
Mendoza city is an hour and a half northeast, though little pulls you back to urban sprawl once you've settled into the altitude and stillness. Governor Francisco Gabrielli International Airport sits 95 kilometres away, easily reached by private transfer through the flat eastern plains before the route climbs into the Andes foothills.
Francis Mallmann's Siete Fuegos restaurant anchors the property, the legendary Argentine chef's temple to open-fire cooking where lamb shoulders and provoleta emerge from wood embers with smoky char and caramelized edges. The complimentary three-course dinner showcases his elemental approach: whole vegetables roasted in coals, grass-fed beef from the Pampas, earthy wines poured by sommeliers who know every vintage aging in the on-site cellars. Book a blending session to craft your own cuvée, guided through barrel tastings and the alchemy of Mendoza's high-altitude terroir.
Beyond the estate, DiamAndes sits six kilometres into the valley, a sleek French-owned bodega with tastings conducted in a glass pavilion overlooking the Tupungato volcano. Cuvelier Los Andes lies just beyond, another seven kilometres, for Bordeaux-trained winemakers and structured blends. Trail the vineyard roads at dawn when light floods the vines and the Andes turn pink. Don't miss the Salto Chorro de la Vieja, a 25-kilometre drive into the cordillera where glacial water plunges through basalt cliffs.
Summer (December through February) blazes hot under relentless sun, temperatures climbing past 25°C while afternoon storms roll down from the mountains and leave the air scrubbed clean. Harvest begins in late February, the vineyards abuzz with grape-picking crews and the scent of fermentation drifting from the bodegas.
Autumn (March through May) brings golden light and cooling nights, the vines turning crimson and amber as temperatures ease into the teens. This is the valley at its most photogenic, the harvest complete and the wine settling into barrels.
Winter (June through August) turns sharp and clear, nights dipping near freezing while days remain sunny and mild enough for vineyard walks. Snow dusts the highest peaks, the landscape spare and monochrome, the low season perfect for unhurried tastings and fireside dinners.
