Location
Four Seasons brings its signature anticipatory service to the Cycladic island of Mykonos, maintaining the twice-daily housekeeping and 24-hour in-room dining that define the brand while reflecting the island's windswept character through local architecture and cultural programming. The property sits in the Ano Mera community, away from the crowded port town of Chora, offering a quieter vantage on this island that has drawn pilgrims and traders since antiquity.
Mykonos earns its nickname, The Island of the Winds, from the relentless meltemi that sweeps across the Aegean. The island's 85.5 square kilometres rise to just 341 metres at their highest point, leaving the whitewashed villages and golden beaches exposed to the elements. Tourism has transformed this rocky outpost, but pockets of stillness remain, particularly on the island's eastern flank where the property stands.
Mykonos Island National Airport lies five kilometres away, a short transfer that deposits arrivals into a landscape of stone walls, scattered churches, and the blue sweep of the Aegean. Athens and its international gateway sit 140 kilometres to the west, connected by frequent flights and seasonal ferries.
The property's dining reflects Four Seasons' commitment to locale-specific cuisine, though the island's Michelin landscape remains undeveloped. The real culinary draw lies in the rhythm of the Aegean: grilled octopus still warm from the coals, horta dressed with lemon, local cheeses from Tinos and Naxos. Book a table at one of Chora's harbour tavernas for that experience, or remain on the eastern coast where beachside psarotavernes serve the day's catch within sight of the nets.
Delos, twelve kilometres offshore, anchors any stay here. According to myth, Leto gave birth to Apollo and Artemis on this tiny island, and the sanctuary that followed drew pilgrims from across the Greek world. The archaeological site, a UNESCO World Heritage listing since 1990, preserves temples, mosaics, and the haunting Terrace of the Lions. A short boat ride delivers you to this uninhabited island where trade and devotion once flourished. Closer to the property, Elia Beach and Kalo Livadi stretch along the southern coast, sand and clear water framed by low headlands. Don't miss Agrari, a quieter cove just over a kilometre away where the wind drops and the water turns glass-smooth by mid-morning.
Summer here is defined by heat and wind. July and August see temperatures climbing past 26°C, the sky a hard, unbroken blue, and the meltemi gusting strong enough to kick up whitecaps in the harbour. Rain disappears entirely; the island turns tawny and dry. This is high season, when the beaches fill and the tavernas stay open past midnight.
Spring and autumn offer gentler conditions. May and September bring warmth without the wind's full force, temperatures in the low twenties, and enough rain to keep the landscape green. The light softens, the crowds thin, and the ferries run less frequently but still reliably.
Winter is mild but wet. December and January see the most rainfall, the island quiet as shutters close across Chora. Temperatures hover in the low teens, cool enough for a jacket but rarely cold. This is when Mykonos returns to its year-round residents, the windmills standing sentinel over empty streets.
