Location
One&Only brings its signature approach to this Indian Ocean retreat: expansive private spaces, low guest density, and a dedication to natural beauty over crowded luxury. The philosophy here centres on bespoke experiences and signature dining, all designed to create a sense of seclusion even in shared moments.
The property sits on the eastern coast of Mauritius, where the island's turquoise lagoon meets Belle Mare beach. Pointe de Flacq, a quiet corner of the island's north-eastern coast, offers immediate access to some of the region's finest golf courses and powder-fine sand beaches. The Legend and The Links courses lie within walking distance, while the wilder stretches of Bras d'Eau National Park begin just a few kilometres inland. This is the less-travelled side of Mauritius, away from the bustle of Port Louis yet close enough to the island's colonial and indentured-labour history, memorialized at Aapravasi Ghat.
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport sits thirty-one kilometres south. The drive follows the coast road, past cane fields and fishing villages, where the rhythm of island life unfolds at a pace untouched by resort schedules.
The property anchors your days, but the surrounding coast rewards those who venture out. Three championship golf courses lie within two kilometres: The Legend and The Links at Belle Mare Plage, plus the newer Nine further north. Ile Aux Cerfs Golf Club, thirteen kilometres south, occupies its own island, accessible by boat. Start with the Constance Belle Mare Plage Practice Course, a short walk from the hotel, to adjust to the trade winds before committing to eighteen holes.
The Central Flacq Market Fair, four and a half kilometres inland, operates on Wednesdays and Sundays. Arrive early for mangoes, lychees, and the spice vendors who still grind masala by hand. Trou d'eau Douce Marina, nine and a half kilometres south, launches catamarans to the offshore islets, while Bras d'Eau National Park offers trails through indigenous forest where Mauritian flying foxes roost in the canopy. Book a boat to Ile aux Cerfs for deserted beaches and shallow lagoon swimming that rivals any in the Indian Ocean.
January through March brings the island's hottest, wettest months. Temperatures hold near thirty degrees, and afternoon downpours drench the cane fields before clearing to reveal the sharp light of late afternoon. The sea is warmest now, but cyclone season occasionally disrupts the coast.
May through October ushers in Mauritius's winter, though the term is generous: daytime temperatures hover in the mid-twenties, and rainfall dries to a whisper. The trade winds pick up, sharpening the ocean into whitecaps. This is golf season, when fairways stay firm and evenings cool enough for long dinners outdoors.
November and December mark the shoulder into summer. The lagoon calms, humidity climbs, and the island turns lush again. December sees afternoon storms return, but mornings stay crystalline. Come between May and October for the most reliable weather, or risk February for solitude and lower rates despite the rain.
