The town itself unfolds along a crescent bay where fishing boats still work the harbour and the annual Semaine nautique internationale draws yachts from across the Mediterranean each summer. Walk east along the corniche and the mountains slide into the sea. Walk west and you reach the wider sands of Kabila Plage and the wooded headlands of Cabo Negro. The light here is sharper than on the Atlantic side, the air scented with wild thyme and salt.

Sania Ramel Airport sits eleven kilometres south; Tangier's Ibn Battuta terminal is fifty-four kilometres west for wider connections.

The Plage de M'Diq stretches along golden sand just 500 metres from the property, its calm waters ideal for swimming between May and October when the Strait warms. For a more secluded stretch, head to Plage Marina Smir, six kilometres west, backed by umbrella pines. The Cabo Negro Royal Golf Club, also six kilometres out, offers eighteen holes with sea views across fairways shaped by coastal winds.

Inland, Tétouan's medina rewards half a day: narrow souks selling zellige tilework, embroidered leather babouches, and silver jewellery in the Andalusian style that defined this city during its centuries as a refuge for Muslims and Jews fleeing the Reconquista. Start with the Souk El Hut Al Kadim, the old fish market, fourteen kilometres away, where vendors sell the morning's catch from Larache to Al Hoceima. The weekly Souk Fuqui brings mountain Berbers down to trade livestock, spices, and produce. Book a table at one of the waterfront grills in town for charmoula-rubbed sardines straight from the boat, served with olive oil and cumin-flecked khobz.

Summer here is defined by dry heat and long days: July and August peak near 29°C, the Strait glittering under relentless sun, evenings cooled by cross-Mediterranean breezes. This is high season, when the beaches fill and the marinas hum with activity. Spring and autumn soften the edges: April through June and September through October bring temperatures in the low to mid-twenties, the hills green after winter rains, the sea still swimmable.

Winter is mild but wet, December through February seeing the year's heaviest downpours, though temperatures rarely drop below ten degrees. The light turns pewter, the medinas empty of crowds, the mountains behind Tétouan dusted with snow at their peaks.

Visit between May and October for the best balance of warmth and clarity.
