Hyatt operates properties at every tier of the hospitality spectrum, from select-service to ultra-luxury, united by the World of Hyatt programme that rewards loyalty with uncommon generosity. This West Maui property sits on the Kāanapali coast, where the shoreline bends into golden crescents of sand and the West Maui Mountains rise inland, their ridges shadowed by clouds that never quite reach the beach. The air smells of plumeria and salt. Palms click in the trade winds. Lahaina, the historic port town four kilometres south, was largely destroyed by wildfire in 2023, a tragedy that claimed over 100 lives and reshaped the island's cultural geography. The town's recovery is ongoing. To the north, the Kāanapali and Kapalua resort corridor remains intact, a ribbon of properties along Route 30 where visitors come for the steady sun and transparent water. Kapalua Airport lies six kilometres north, a small commuter hub serving turboprops from Honolulu and neighbouring islands. Most arrivals route through Kahului International, 27 kilometres east across the isthmus. The drive follows the coast, past cane fields reclaimed by scrub and ocean views that open suddenly between buildings.

Kāanapali Beach stretches just beyond the property, a kilometre-long sweep of sand where outrigger canoes launch at dawn and snorkelers drift over lava shelves thick with reef fish. The water is warm, clear, predictable. Kahekili Beach, three kilometres north, draws fewer crowds. Baby Beach and Keka'a Beach, the latter known for its cliff-jump site at Black Rock, sit farther along the coast. Book a snorkel or dive charter from Lahaina Harbor to explore Molokini Crater or the underwater cliffs off Lānai, both accessible within an hour by boat. Inland, the West Maui Natural Area Reserve protects native rainforest and cloud forest ecosystems nine kilometres from the coast, accessible by guided hike or helicopter tour. The Plantation Course at Kapalua, 11 kilometres north, offers views of the channel and wind-bent greens. For waterfall hikes, Quarter-Mile Falls lies 15 kilometres inland along back roads and muddy trails that require four-wheel drive. Maui Wine, 42 kilometres upcountry in Kula, produces pineapple wine and estate-grown whites at elevation, a worthwhile detour for the view alone.

Summer arrives in May and holds through October, with highs near 30°C and rainfall that barely registers. The light turns harsh by midday. Trade winds keep the humidity bearable. The ocean is warmest now, glassy in the early morning before the wind picks up. Winter, December through February, brings occasional rain squalls and swells that draw surfers to the north-facing breaks. Temperatures cool slightly, dipping into the high teens overnight. The air softens. Humpback whales pass through the channel between Maui and Lānai, visible from shore on clear mornings. Spring and autumn are temperate and dry, ideal for hiking inland trails before the summer heat sets in. March and April see the least rain, the ocean calm, the island quieter between whale season and summer arrivals. November offers similar conditions, with fewer visitors and warm water lingering from summer.

What Guests Say: Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa

“There's a little kid's lagoon with a small slide that they rode multiple times. Adult slide is really fun too. I think the rooms were recently remodeled so it was nice enough. Club lounge is great. The staff there was very nice and the evening appetizers made dinner for us a couple times.”

“We loved our time there. One thing for us is that we don't spend much time on the beach - which this HR isn't known for. So we were totally fine with the pool. Maui had so much to explore that we rarely spent time in the hotel anyway. Oh our 3yo loved the penguins.”
