Tourlos 846 00, Greece

Mykonos Riviera sits along the island's northern coast, where the Aegean's notorious winds whip across terraced hillsides and whitewashed villages cling to sun-bleached rock. The property occupies the Tourlos shoreline, a quieter stretch removed from the frenzy of Mykonos Town's harbour yet close enough to reach Chora's labyrinthine alleys and cube-shaped houses on foot or by a brief drive. The island earned its nickname, The Island of the Winds, honestly: meltemi gusts shape the rhythm of life here, cooling summer heat and sculpting the low, scrubby landscape.

Tourlos beach lies just three hundred metres from the hotel, a sheltered curve of sand where fishing boats bob alongside superyachts moored at the New Port Public Marina. Agios Stefanos beach, a kilometre north, draws fewer crowds and offers clearer water. The island's real draw, though, is Delos, nine kilometres offshore. This tiny, uninhabited island is Apollo's mythical birthplace and a UNESCO World Heritage site, its ruins of temples, theatres, and villas revealing what was once the Cyclades' most powerful trading port and religious sanctuary.

Mykonos Island National Airport sits four kilometres southeast, a quick transfer from arrivals. Ferries depart regularly for neighbouring Tinos, Paros, and Naxos, weaving the island into the wider Cycladic archipelago.

The Delos crossing is non-negotiable. Ferries depart from the old harbour in Mykonos Town, and the twenty-minute journey delivers you to marble-columned sanctuaries, mosaic-floored houses, and the Terrace of the Lions, its archaic stone beasts still guarding Apollo's sacred lake after two and a half millennia. Arrive early before the afternoon winds pick up and the crowds thicken. Back on Mykonos, wander Chora's maze of alleys, where bougainvillea spills over balconies and every turn reveals another chapel or hidden courtyard.

The island's beaches spread along the southern coast, each with its own character. Agios Charalabos, just over two kilometres away, remains quieter than the famous party stretches. For wine, Vaptistis winery on neighbouring Tinos, seventeen kilometres east, produces small-batch vintages in volcanic soil. Moraitis Winery on Paros, thirty-nine kilometres south, is worth the ferry ride for its indigenous monemvasia and mandilaria varietals. Book a table at one of Chora's harbourfront tavernas for grilled octopus and local kopanisti cheese.

Summer is bone-dry and brilliant. July and August see temperatures climb past 26°C, the meltemi winds providing relief as the island swells with visitors. The light turns harsh and white, bleaching the already pale stone. Shoulder seasons offer the best balance: May and June bring wildflowers and temperatures in the low twenties, while September's warmth lingers without the August crush.

Winter empties the island but brings its own rewards. December through February sees frequent rain and temperatures dipping to ten degrees, but the landscape softens, tavernas return to serving locals, and the relentless winds ease just enough to make coastal walks bearable.

Spring arrives slowly. March and April remain cool, but the island begins to stir, beaches reopen, and the sea warms enough for the first swimmers to brave the Aegean's chill.
